Type of farm?
We do expect you to be at work every day we work and we cannot tell you exactly when your days will start or end. This is a profitable, working farm. You do not need tools or machinery but we do expect you to take good care of ours. We believe in working for what you earn. We will give a hand up if you do your part. We openly and freely speak of our Christian faith on our farm and if that is a problem this position is not for you.
Since there is not much to do on the farm from December through February you would be free to find part time employment elsewhere during that time.
This would be a perfect position for a young farm family that doesn't have the funds to purchase their own land but has the same love for God's creation as we do. We are looking for someone who has had previous farm experience. You need to know how to operate tillage equipment, a backhoe and skid steer, how to do maintenance on tractors, combines and other farm machinery. Our equipment is mainly John Deere. We bale a large amount of hay for sale and for our humus composting operation. We would like to expand our vegetable operation which would be an excellent opportunity to make this a family affair. This is not a 9 to 5 job and requires some long, hot, hard days but also is the type of operation allows you to have fun while you work. We do have a few chickens and are open to other livestock if you have experience and desire - especially grass fed beef. If you have aspirations of a new endeavor we are open to listening to your ideas and helping you pursue your dreams if you are willing to help us with ours. We do not have housing for you but would discuss helping you with a rented place if your experience warrants and you want to work full time. We are not a get rich quick farm but the opportunity for a good future for you exists on our farm.
Our farms are located in west central Illinois, within a 20 mile radius of our home.
We would like you to email us with your qualifications and questions. We would then like to visit with you on the phone followed up by an on farm visit if both of us feel we would be a good match. email@example.com
depends on experience - mid to high $30s possible to begin
We are organic grain farmers looking for someone interested in learning our process with the possibility of taking over our operation when we retire. Right now we grow organic soybeans, corn, rye, oats, wheat and hay and we also own and operate a large humus compost operation. We also grow a few vegetables and would love to expand that area of our operation. We have all of the necessary machinery needed and the land. We own land, cash rent and 50/50 crop share. We have area land owners contacting us wanting us to transition their ground to organics but we just can't do it all ourselves. By 2019 we will have 750 acres certified with an additional 250 acres in operation. You may visit our farm at www.sunsetlakeorganics.com
