Type of farm?
Compensation is negotiable, but the individual will be allowed to stay on the farm in primitive housing.
The farm is very remote and individual would need their own reliable transportation. There are some gravel roads which need to be traveled. The farm is in a remote part of Illinois that is typical of rural America these days, food dessert amid big acreages. But it is quite lovely and tranquil, with little to no traffic and an abundance of wildlife.
I would follow up the application process with a phone call, email, and reference check.
A small monthly stipend would be provided for the individual but hopefully the individual would also grow a lot of their own produce and possibly a few chickens for their own use.
I am looking for a serious applicant who is knowledgeable about living in the country with heat and humidity and bugs, and hopefully know a bit about gardening and growing food. I do not want an individual who would need to be spoon fed every step of the way.
I would work alongside the individual where possible and we would hopefully learn from each other. I can convey what I know about growing gardens, et cetera, but if the individual has another approach to the same situation, I am very flexible. I do not plan to be at the farm everyday and would hope the individual is self motivated.
Because of the diversity of the farm it is hard to describe the position. The position is a little of everything from occasionally cleaning out chicken coop, to pruning fruit trees, to mowing and weeding gardens, to clearing brush, to light carpentry.A self-starter visionary would be a plus. I would like very much to have the individual plant and grow as much food as they possibly could. Currently the farm has a lot of potential for growing lots of food but is under utilized due to the owner's inability to accomplish all that needs to get done. I am looking for some good, reliable, and strong help. It is a unique opportunity because the location is perfect for growing food, small grains, and cut flowers, and keeping livestock, and/or creating an enterprise related to farming or outdoors, such as woodcraft and furniture making. The owner lives in the nearby town and therefore, the individual would have an opportunity once or twice a week to come to town, do laundry, shower in a domestic facility, and sleep in AC comfort.
As long as the work gets done, I am not fussy about someone keeping specific hours.
Renewal Acres, LLC is tens acres of a little bit of everything -- chickens, beehives, grow beds, a couple ponds, woods, a four- acre prairie, trails, and a lot of privacy and tranquility. In addition there are two very nice metal barns and electric and a functioning well. Owner does not live on the farm, but would like a caretaker at the farm to manage and care for the chickens, grow beds and fruit trees, and keep premises mowed and trimmed where needed, and a variety of other duties and chores. The farm is turn-key* and has two primitive cabins for housing and is ready for the right individual with a vision for helping the owner and also creating an enterprise related to farming, be it pastured-poultry, pigs on dirt, or goats, (Chicago is four hours, St. Louis, three and a half hours). *turn key, a term that generally means ready for occupancy
